The Polk County Royals stand as Polk County's sole men's professional basketball team, representing a beacon of athletic prowess, community engagement, and championship spirit.

Our journey commenced in 2021 when we made our debut in the Florida Basketball Association under the banner of the Lakeland Royals. Breaking barriers, we proudly claimed the title of the first female-owned team in the FBA, a testament to our pioneering spirit and commitment to diversity in sports. Notably, in 2022, we etched our name in history once more by clinching the coveted FBA championship—an achievement that continues to inspire us and shape our ethos.

At the heart of our organization lies a relentless dedication to cultivating a championship culture. We instill in our players the values of grit, determination, and excellence, ensuring that the championship mindset permeates every aspect of our team.

We believe in providing a platform for young men to thrive as professional athletes and ascend to new heights in their basketball careers. Amy Rhodes - Owner, Polk County Royals

Amy Rhodes is the driving force behind the Polk County Royals, leading with vision, passion, and a commitment to excellence in professional basketball. As the first female owner in the FBA and one of the youngest team owners in the ABA, Amy's leadership has positioned the Royals as pioneers in the industry.

Amy's journey to ownership began with a deep love for the game and an entrepreneurial spirit. Her determination to carve out a space for the Royals within Polk County's sports landscape propelled the team to prominence, setting new standards for inclusivity, diversity, and championship success.

Beyond her role as owner, Amy is a trailblazer for women in sports leadership, inspiring others to break barriers and pursue their dreams fearlessly. Her experience as a former professional athlete and coach at both the middle and high school levels has instilled in her a profound belief in the power of opportunity and mentorship.

Darius Howard - Head Coach, Polk County Royals

Darius Howard brings an illustrious basketball career and a wealth of coaching experience to the Polk County Royals organization. From his early days at Lake Charles Boston High School to his professional stints across the globe, Coach Howard's journey is a testament to his dedication, passion, and expertise in the game.

A standout player in both collegiate and professional basketball, Coach Howard's resume boasts a remarkable trajectory. From his collegiate days at Glenville State and Southwest Assemblies of God University to his professional endeavors in Europe, Asia, and the United States, he has left an indelible mark with his exceptional skills and leadership on the court.

Transitioning seamlessly into coaching, Coach Howard's impact has been profound. He began his coaching journey as an assistant coach with the Royals during their inaugural season and played a pivotal role in guiding the team to victory in the FBA playoffs and championship game in 2022. His return as Head Coach underscores his commitment to the team and its success.

Coach Howard's coaching philosophy is rooted in player development and pushing athletes to reach their full potential. His expertise in skill enhancement and mentorship has earned him recognition as a sought-after coach and mentor. Beyond his role with the Royals, Coach Howard runs a local training organization aimed at nurturing high school players into professional athletes, garnering attention from colleges nationwide.
